H1N1 (Swine Flu) Information
Timberline Ranch is taking careful precautions to protect our staff and campers against H1N1 or "Swine Flu" and other potential sicknesses. We are following the guidelines set out by the BC Centre for Disease Control and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Steps (as clearly laid out in the recent BC Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pandemic H1N1(2009) Influenza Virus in Summer Camps) include:
- Requesting that no staff, campers, and visitors come to Timberline Ranch if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms, which include one or more of the following:
- Cough and fever
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Body aches
- Fatigue
- Lack of appetite.
- Screening all campers for above symptoms prior to admitting them to the property and prior to being exposed to other staff and campers.
- Asking all staff and campers to notify the camp nurse immediately if these symptoms manifest themselves.
- Encouraging all staff and campers to wash their hands regularly and use the sanitization station prior to all meals.
- Ensuring campers sleep at least one meter apart and head to toe in bunk beds.
- Sending home any staff or camper who manifests these symptoms; if this is impossible, then the individual will be isolated from others until further arrangements can be made.
- Encouraging the use of surgical masks, gloves, and eye protection for medical personnel dealing with patients.
- Increased cleaning of frequently touched surfaces, such as door knobs, faucets, and so on.
Although Timberline Ranch has so far avoided any outbreak of flu-like symptoms, we recognize that it is an ongoing danger in such a setting. For this reason, and not for the occurrence of H1N1 alone, we continue to do all we can to keep all of our patrons safe and healthy.
